The Wrestler Movie Review

Hello. This will be my first review for CinemaSquad, a group of people dedicated to giving the best reviews possible. Today I will be reviewing the major motion picture “The Wrestler” starring Mickey Rourke as Randy “The Ram” Robinson and Marisa Tomei in the supporting role as Cassidy.

This film is focused around the life of Randy “The Ram” Robinson and the hardships he endures on a daily basis as a has-been wrestler on the circuit for one too many years. After a heart attack he has to re-evaluate his life, cancelling the upcoming rematch with old foe The Ayotollah. He has to get a job at the local store working the deli-counter, just to keep his trailer. Once out of the cycle wrestling, his relationship with a local stripper, Cassidy (Marisa Tomei in her most revealing role) starts to get intense. He tries hard to regain the love of his long-distanced daughter Stephanie, played by the surging young actress, Evan Rachel Wood. But through all of this, “The Ram” stays dedicated to one thing, his true passion, professional wrestling. Going as far as to put his life in danger, he just wants to satisfy the crowd with his signature move “The Ram Jam” one last time. A move he perfected in the 80s as a very popular professional wrestler.

Mickey Rourke has performed wonderfully in this Golden Globe winning performance. It is truly a rebirth of his career. I don’t believe he could have done it without the gorgeous actresses Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood. Add on an awesome theme song, The Wrestler, by Bruce Springsteen, and an awesome director, Darren Aronofsky, and you have a recipe for a great movie. It is a bit different from Darren Aronofsky’s previous work, such as Requiem for a Dream, and The Fountain. But don’t be turned off because of that. It is well written and well produced.A true Americana style film you just can’t go wrong with.
